why take a rick steves tour?
I am thankful that I have the opportunity to travel. I will never forget my first experience traveling to Europe with Rick Steves in my bag. I was independent and felt secure knowing advice was just a page turn away (pre smartphones). Those back door travels opened my view and I know I am different because of those experiences. The thought of traveling with a bunch of strangers on a bus with so much structure was not appealing. The tour idea became more appealing when I came upon the daunting task of planning 5 weeks of my sabbatical in France and realizing that certain destinations would be challenging to navigate solo and likely at more cost. I chose Paris and the Heart of France so that I could easily get to the D-Day beaches and experience it with a local guide. Since I was traveling 5 weeks alone this was a good opportunity to enjoy my travels with others, albeit strangers.
Time is precious and I want my few vacation days to be enriching and rejuvenating. The two tours I’ve taken have provided the opportunity for authentic cultural experiences by connecting with the locals whether it’s the sheep farmer, listening to the local musicians in a small town pub, or waking up at the crack of dawn to listen to the monks and nuns sing their prayers atop Mont Saint-Michel.

I now choose to take Rick Steves tours where I know I will be led by knowledgeble tour guides, along with local experts that bring history to life. Now more than ever, I am ready to commit to more travel so that I may continue to keep my eyes and mind open.
What about that itinerary? Well, that itinerary for England, ensured there was less opportunity for sisterly squabbling and remaining friends! It was a great bonding experience.
Check out some of our experiences in the "Best of England in 14 Days" tour; I hope this gives you the impetus to take the leap as well and join a tour. |
